The Clark County Children’s Justice Center is a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center that provides advocacy and support services for alleged child victims of criminal-level abuse. Trauma-informed design informed this project, in line with the CJC’s mission to offer a safe, child-focused space for visitors and their families.
Spanning two walls, this mural features quiet vignettes from deep in the forest. A fawn and a bear cub, each surrounded by delicate flowers, greet visitors and offer a gentle distraction. The light green background suffuses the formerly stark space with calm — almost as if you can feel the mist stirring in the air.
I approached the painting process with velvety, wet-on-wet brushstrokes that support the soft naturalism of the piece.
