Ratio Coffee x Roseline Coffee Session Room

A collaboration between two Portland-based coffee businesses, Session Room is a showroom located within Roseline's Central Eastside location. Amidst a sun-bathed backdrop of plants and art, visitors can interact with Ratio coffee machines while tasting Roseline coffee.

Bridging the visual identities of both brands, this mural playfully explores the intersection of art, architecture, nature, and coffee culture in one of Portland’s most vibrant districts.

Design Notes

Much like the urban environment that inspired it, the design melds the organic and the architectural. Glistening puddles contain the sharp angles of buildings; clouds float by in the reflections of windows. Everything is constantly shifting, from the rotating street art to the echoes drifting from the skate park— a dynamism captured in the mural's contrasting shapes, layered details, and buzzing colors.

Coffee imagery woven throughout underscores the brands' shared passion: brewing a lovely cup of coffee.

Inspiration and Process

Before sketching, I walked around the Eastside, taking photos with my phone and searching for different shapes, textures, and vistas that could help me capture its distinct energy. This meandering stroll is referenced in the multi-colored cord that weaves from one end of the mural to the other—as well as in the mural's title, "Wandering Through Central Eastside."
